Match the action to the domain you already have
Choose renewal for an existing domain you keep at its registrar, transfer for a registrar move, or registration for an available new name.
Register an available new name, renew an existing registration at its current registrar, or transfer that registration to a different registrar. Eligibility, price and timing vary by TLD and provider. A website hosting or DNS change alone does not require transfer.
Before ordering, write down the exact domain including its suffix, its current registrar and registrant, its expiry date as shown by the authoritative registrar, and the outcome you want. A similar spelling or different suffix is a different domain. Confirm that the person requesting the action has authority over the registration.
Choose the action for the domain's current state
If you do not own the desired name, check actual availability and the applicable terms before requesting a new registration. A search result or basket reservation is not completed registration. If you already own the name and want to keep it with its current registrar, choose renewal and verify the completed term rather than assuming an invoice or auto-renew switch proves registry renewal. If you want another registrar to administer the existing name, first check transfer eligibility and authorisation with the current and receiving registrars.
A domain close to expiry needs special care. ICANN advises registrants to know the expiry date and their registrar’s renewal process. A transfer can be delayed or blocked by applicable policy or status; do not rely on an uncompleted transfer as the sole plan to retain a near-expiry name. Ask the current registrar about the safest sequence for that specific top-level domain.
Check service and price details before paying
Confirm that the chosen action is available for the domain’s top-level domain in the actual Novasean catalogue, and review the displayed price, term and registrar conditions. Transfer and renewal can have different term effects depending on policy and circumstances; avoid assuming every transfer adds a year or that a new registration can recover a name already held by someone else. If the domain is already pending transfer or renewal, investigate its status before submitting the same action again.
Preserve the existing DNS and hosting plan during a registrar move. A registrar transfer and nameserver edit are separate decisions, although a registrar’s handling of DNS services may affect the migration plan. Record the current nameservers and critical records before changing providers.
Confirm the resulting registration, not just the order
After the transaction, check the registrar or authoritative registration status for the exact domain. For registration, confirm the intended registrant and completed domain. For renewal, confirm the new expiry date. For transfer, confirm the receiving registrar and final transfer status. A paid invoice or submitted request alone may not prove completion. If the status remains pending or differs from what you expected, contact the responsible registrar or Novasean support with the order reference before ordering again.
After a transfer request, expect the receiving registrar to become the sponsor only when it completes; a request or invoice is an intermediate state.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to transfer my domain to move my website? Usually no. You can often keep the registrar and change only the hosting or DNS destination, subject to the provider’s controls.
Can I register a domain that I already own at another registrar? No. To keep the same existing registration, renew it or request a transfer as appropriate; a new registration is for an available name.
Does a transfer automatically copy registrar-hosted DNS? No. Keep the old DNS service until the new arrangement is verified.
