Verify the scheduled item and site clock
Check the post's scheduled time, site time zone and status before diagnosing WordPress's scheduling trigger.
A late post can be a time-zone mismatch, a missed trigger or an unexpected post status. Have an authorised editor check the post’s status, scheduled date and time, and the site time zone under Settings → General if that control is available. Compare the intended local time with the time displayed by WordPress; an unexpected time zone can make a correctly queued post appear late. Record the exact post ID or title and expected publication time without sending unpublished content to a public support channel.
Check whether the post was actually published but a visitor sees an old cached page. A missing post on the public site, while WordPress shows Published, is a different branch from a post still marked Scheduled or Missed schedule.
Check WordPress’s scheduling path
WordPress uses WP-Cron for scheduled posts. Its developer documentation says due tasks are checked on page loads rather than by a continuously running system scheduler. A quiet site may therefore run a due task later than its target time. That model alone does not explain every missed post: an application error or failed loopback request can also matter. If the owner has access, review Tools → Site Health for a relevant loopback finding and note the result and time. WordPress documents loopback requests as part of starting WP-Cron.
Do not disable a security rule or manually call internal URLs just because a scheduled post was late. The operator can investigate a demonstrated platform-level block while the application owner checks plugin conflicts and scheduling configuration.
Recover publication and test the scheduling trigger safely
For a time-sensitive message, the authorised content owner can publish manually after checking the final text and approval; do not rely on a future scheduler test for urgent material. For diagnosis, prefer a representative staging site protected at the site or access layer. Schedule a harmless test post with Future status a short time ahead, then record whether it publishes automatically, after a normal visit or not at all. Private status does not test the Future-to-Publish transition. On production, use only a specifically approved disposable post that may become public, and remove it through the editorial process.
A separately approved real system scheduler may be an option for a site needing predictable timings, but it is not an assumed Novasean entitlement. Ask the application owner and platform operator to assess that design under the purchased service rather than editing guest cron or assuming a panel control exists.
For example, a post still marked Future after its intended time may reflect the site's time zone or a missed trigger. Check both before manually publishing so the content owner knows whether the scheduling fault still needs repair.
Confirm the publishing state and identify recurrence
Check the final post status in WordPress and open its public URL in a fresh session. If the next scheduled test fails, send the post schedule, time zone, Site Health result and safe error message to the application maintainer or support according to the failing layer. Keep unpublished content and credentials out of the ticket. A successful one-off manual publish proves the content can be shown, not that scheduling has recovered.
Frequently asked questions
Will a scheduled post always publish at the exact minute? WP-Cron is page-load triggered by default, so low traffic can delay a due task.
Should I create a server cron job myself? Only if the service grants that control and the application owner and operator have agreed the setup. If an already agreed DirectAdmin cron job has stopped running, use the related cron diagnosis.
