DirectAdmin email sending limit reached? Find the affected account

Identify the affected DirectAdmin mailbox or user sending allowance and stop unexpected mail first.

Confirm a sending limit is the actual failure

Confirm the actual sending-limit response and affected account before changing an allowance or retrying a bulk send.

A generic inability to send can reflect authentication, storage or remote rejection instead. Start with the exact DirectAdmin notice, SMTP response or bounce, the sender address, time and time zone. A warning that a daily sending threshold was reached is stronger evidence than a generic “cannot send” report. A mailbox storage quota, recipient rejection, authentication error or broken connection is a different problem; use the send-versus-receive diagnosis if the response does not identify a limit.

This guide applies only when your Novasean service includes the relevant DirectAdmin mail function. Do not infer a fixed daily allowance from a control-panel screenshot or another provider’s plan. Confirm the actual package, account permissions and accepted terms before asking for a change.

Pause automated sends and preserve the evidence

Stop a bulk send, website form, newsletter, scheduled script or retry loop that might keep consuming the allowance. Keep one redacted example of the exact failure, a message ID if available, the affected mailbox and the first known time. Do not forward full message bodies, credentials or a complete mail log in an ordinary ticket. If the volume was unexpected, treat it as a possible compromised mailbox or application and ask the authorised operator to investigate before any reset or limit increase.

A “Sent” folder entry does not prove recipient delivery. Equally, receiving mail normally does not rule out a separate outbound limit.

Identify which daily boundary was reached

DirectAdmin documents two distinct controls. A per-mailbox sending limit can stop one email account. A DirectAdmin-user limit can count all mailboxes and scripts under that hosting user together. The configured values and whether a user can view or change a per-mailbox control depend on the server and account settings. In an entitled panel, inspect the affected address under E-Mail Accounts if a sending-limit field or notice is available; do not assume every skin or permission set shows it. If several addresses or website-generated messages fail together, ask the operator to compare account-wide usage and the mail logs.

A daily limit is a count of sending activity, not the storage space used by a mailbox. Do not delete messages to “free” a send allowance. Avoid guessing when the counter resets; ask the operator which boundary and measurement period apply to the actual account.

Find the reason for the unexpected volume

  1. Compare the recent legitimate campaign, website notifications and automated jobs with the usual send pattern. Identify the owner of each source.
  2. Ask the mail operator to correlate the first excess event with the relevant account or script and the server’s delivery records. A user-visible notice may not identify which sender consumed the shared allowance.
  3. If traffic is unexplained, secure the affected account or application through an authorised incident process: rotate exposed credentials, inspect website forms and scripts, and check for further unauthorised sends. Preserve evidence before changing production.

DirectAdmin describes these limits as outgoing-spam controls. Raising a ceiling or resetting today’s count without understanding the sender can allow abuse to continue and harm mail deliverability.

Choose a controlled resolution and verify delivery

For an expected one-off send, use an authorised service that fits the volume and accepted mail policy, or ask Novasean whether a scoped change is available. For a misconfigured script, stop the loop and retest once after correction. For suspected compromise, contain and investigate first; a limit change is not the incident fix. Only the authorised operator should change account-wide limits or reset usage when that is justified. A customer may see a per-mailbox setting only where the operator has enabled that permission; do not set an unlimited value to bypass the safeguard.

After the identified cause is resolved and the operator confirms sending is allowed, send one harmless message to an address you control. Verify both server acceptance and recipient arrival, then watch for a repeat limit notice during normal use. If a specific recipient rejects it, use the exact bounce to diagnose that delivery path instead.

For example, after stopping a looping website form, one harmless send to an address you control can check SMTP acceptance and arrival. If the daily counter has not reset or been authorised for change, wait for the operator's guidance rather than repeating sends.

Give support a useful, private case summary

Provide the service and DirectAdmin account identifier through the authorised support route, affected sender address, exact redacted notice or SMTP response, first and latest times with time zone, approximate expected sending volume, whether other mailboxes or website scripts are affected, and whether the traffic was expected. Ask which counter was reached, what consumed it, whether mail remains queued or rejected, and what safe remedy fits the accepted service. Do not include passwords, full headers containing private addresses, customer lists or message contents unless the operator arranges an appropriate secure route.

Can I just wait until tomorrow? Only after stopping a runaway source and checking for abuse; a reset does not fix the cause. Will raising one mailbox’s limit fix every sender? No. The wider DirectAdmin-user allowance may still block other mailboxes or scripts. Is a mailbox storage quota the same limit? No; one limits stored data and the other limits outgoing sends.
